Casa Del Caminero En Tejeda

A comfortable and spacious apartment with a large terrace with superb views (see photos). We loved sitting out in the evening watching the sun set behind the mountains. The host called us the morning after we arrived to check that we'd got there okay and had everything we needed, which was nice. It was only a few minutes walk to a small selection of decent cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as a small supermarket that will likely have most everything you need. There is slightly tricky to access off-street private parking, but there always seemed to be plenty of easily accessible parking on the road by the apartment anyway. The hiking nearby was superb and I didn't get to try all of the trails I'd hoped during the week so I'll definitely be looking to go back again.

We arrived in the dark and navigating our way through the garden area to the property in the dark with our luggage was a bit of a challenge. Thank goodness for phone torches! It would be awesome if there was some shade on the terrace as it got very hot out there during the day (and we were only there in April! ).

This house and the town of Tejeda was the highlight of our stay in Gran Canaria. The terrace and the views are superb and we enjoyed watching the mountains and the stars every evening. The house itself is charming, comfortable and well equipped and is in an excellent location. The shower was powerful and hot - best we had in Gran Canaria.

All the doorways in this house are low, if you're taller you'll need to duck entering the kitchen, bathroom, balcony. It seems to be a normal thing for old houses like this, but takes getting used to. The bedroom window faces a light outside the house which is on all night long, illuminating the room through the curtains - an eye mask might come in useful.

The property is a traditional Canarian house with fantastic views over the village. The restaurant downstairs is open at weekends in the winter and the food is excellent. . Armando is a great host.

Everything was excellent. The house has been in Armando's family for decades and has a very interesting history. The views are magnificent. Armando was a wonderful host. We ate in his restaurant two nights and Sunday lunch, we would have eaten there every night if he had been open. His food was excellent and he enhanced the experience with his knowledge about the history of Gran Canaria, Tejeda and Spain. His art was very interesting and we would definately come back again. Tejeda is a great location for walking, we were a bit unfortunate with the weather but walked everyday apart from one.

Obviously the weather. Google maps is terrible as it took us past the house and down into the village. We advise anyone to ring Armando before arriving in Tejeda. There were not a lot of restaurants open at night on weekdays.
