Uchikobare is situated in a peaceful little town surrounded by mountains - a nice (and much needed) change from the big cities earlier in our travels. The hostel is a traditional Japanese building with a cozy tatami common area that's great for chilling or socializing and thoughtfully designed dorm rooms that allow every occupant some privacy. Besides the beautiful surroundings, what sets this place apart is the amazing staff. The main man Yama-san is a seriously cool guy with a great sense of humour, cooks delicious food (oishi! !). , is great at entertaining guests and does a great job of supporting local business. Mizuki-chan who checked us in is really nice and friendly, lovely to talk to, takes amazing photographs, and has excellent drink recommendations ;). A fantastic place to stay if your in Ehime prefecture!

Stylish place in a good location. Staff makes you feel at home right away. The food was amazing, definitely book with dinner, you won't be disappointed.
I'd prefer check-in from 4 pm. 5 pm is a bit late for walking Henro.

Really good hostel! The place was beautiful and well preserved, everything was clean and the room was really comfortable! Its in a great location near the historical center of the town. Recommended stay!
